Occupational Therapy

At Rowan House our Occupational Therapy inspired holistic and client-centered approach is ideally suited for the support of mental health issues, addictions, trauma, and concurrent disorders. Our philosophy is to empower individuals to make their own journey to recovery and wellness and to look beyond the imitations of their conditions and to achieve personal ambitions. We work with clients in such a way that they are enabled to create meaningful relationships and social connections.

Recovery Model

One of the major strengths of the recovery model is that it focuses on individual strengths and abilities rather than on deficits and pathologies. At Rowan House we place trust in the individual to take an active role in their treatment. Joseph uses his experience of the  Recovery Model and allows clients to choose what works best for their individual recovery. Occupational Therapy as a discipline can also assist individuals in overcoming mild to severe mental health challenges and addictions by developing healthy routines, habits and social/community engagement. Joseph explores with each client triggers and coping strategies, and helps them to create relapse prevention techniques. Clients work towards reclaiming control of their lives by re-establishing and rebuilding meaningful roles, activities and purpose.

Joseph’s experience with various Occupational Therapy approaches as well as the Recovery Model means that in combination with the targeted therapies he can also offer enjoyable skill-based activities that promote teamwork, communication, and personal growth. These interactions not only promote emotional healing but also rebuild social skills, which are particularly valuable for clients who may face specific challenges in their workplaces.

Joseph is an accredited provider of services with Veterans Affairs Canada. He  also works with a number of skilled and independent local practitioners to provide the clients of Rowan House with bespoke and individualised packages of care.

The concept of the recovery model is familiar to most mental health practitioners. But individuals are still working out how to design programs and treatments based on these principles. So Rowan House is unique in Eastern Canada for being the first center to offer a suite of services, both on an outpatient and residential basis,  using this holistic approach to Recovery.
